It is understandable that because the furniture and floors are made out of ebony and fossil oak, a customer must have the possibility to verify that this certain product is made out of that old material.
Today, the scientific most reliable and most accurate method of dating ebony - is radiocarbon dating. This sort of dating is based on carbon, which is the basis of all life on the earth. Carbon atoms appear in three chemical identical isotopes, which have different physical features primarily referred to their mass. The instability of radiocarbon results in its decay during a period of 5.730 years. This instability is the basis of radiocarbon dating.
In Croatia, such dating is conducted by our experts in Zagreb’s Institute Ruđer Bošković, so their services are used by the company “Massive namještaj.”Recently, a sample of fossil oak intended for furniture production was tested. The result was an obtained certificate which confirms the authenticity of a fossil oak which is 6.290 years old(with possible exception of 75 years.)
The mentioned dating are relatively expensive, samples are given to testing sporadically, except when a customer wishes to obtain a certificate for its bought piece of furniture. This is to be certain that the dating of the material from which the furniture was produced is authentical. In this case, the company gladly demands radiocarbon dating. In the same way, according to special orders, it is possible to make especially old pieces of furniture by certified Croatian designers. This furniture can have collectors value, with a certificate about the date of the oak and signed design.
